Carlton Minnesota is a small town that has two state highways and two county roads as main routes transportation routes. It is 21 miles south of Duluth and a very important part of history thanks to the railway line. This is why it is also a part of the Willard Munger State Trails.
The Railways in Carlton
The Northern Pacific Railroad wanted to run a track that would link Duluth to St. Paul and in 1870, the process of building it began. Temporary shacks filled the area that is now known as the “Northern Pacific Junction”, which became a part of Carlton in 1881. This small town has a square mile size of only 2.27, with a portion of it being water.
Things to do in Carlton
Beyond the trail, you can also take part in Carlton Daze. This is a festival type celebration that is held during the later part of July each year. When you attend, you can expect to find craft exhibits, auctions, community plays, a kid’s tractor pull, a parade, and much more. There is also golfing, softball, basketball, and anything else that you could want to do in a small town where people simply want to have a great time.
